The Gender-Based Violence Program is founded on the recognition that many of these families and youth require support to adjust to Canadian norms, expectations and requirements, especially concerning gender relationships. In response to this need, Global Village has previously developed the Cultural Enlightenment Program. This initiative provides the foundation for the Gender Based Violence Educational component with important and essential information and discussion for the participants.

The Program engages youth and their families to promote respectful relationships, positive gender roles and equality.

Program Components

The Three Sections are based on the Government of Canada “16 Ways to End Gender-based Violence“. This excellent initiative includes the need to engage men and boys in discussion promoting awareness, tools and action to address the GBV issue.

“The majority of men and boys do not engage in violence against women and are needed as allies to help change the culture. Men and boys can lead by example by rejecting violent behaviours toward women, girls and non-binary people and be willing to speak out whenever they see violence or harassment directed at others.”

The three sections are:
  • Acknowledging the Problem

  • Removing Negative Stigma

  • Cultural Discussion and Positive Role Models
